The Division of Pediatric Nephrology provides comprehensive care for patients with end-stage renal disease. We provide all modalities of renal replacement therapy including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and continuous renal replacement therapy.

The Santa Rosa Children's Kidney Center is the main unit that provides hemodialysis for children in San Antonio. Other activities include providing kidney transplants for children and both inpatient and outpatient care for children with general kidney diseases. Dietary advice, social support and child life support are also offered to children with kidney diseases.

Children's Kidney Center recognized as Benchmark Facility

The Children's Kidney Center is a recognized ESRD Network of Texas Benchmark Facility based on the 2007 quality of care data collection. The center was the only facility in Texas that qualified for Peritoneal Dialysis Albumin Management Benchmark Status. For the second year in a row, the center is in the top ten percent of all Texas facilities in the management of anemia in the peritoneal dialysis patient. The center is directed by Dr. Mazen Arar, professor of pediatrics and division chief of nephrology.
